Configuring 3CX for use with Dial 9 SIP trunks
Dial 9 SIP trunks will not currently work with the free version of 3CX.
The following guide is to assist you getting your Dial 9 SIP trunks connected to your 3CX system and is written with the understanding that you have already configured your Dial 9 SIP trunks within Dial 9 Connect, which you can reach by logging into the Dial 9 Portal. We do have another guide to help with setting up Dial 9 SIP trunks. This guide covers trunks that authenticate by IP address, and trunks that authenticate with a username and password.
Once your SIP trunks are configured within Dial 9 Connect please log into your 3CX management console.
Setting up the trunk
- In the 3CX management console please select SIP Trunks (Voice and Chat within 3CX v20+) > Add SIP Trunk.
- In the country and VoIP provider dropdown menus please select Generic and then Generic SIP Trunk (IP Based).
- For main trunk number please enter your Dial 9 SIP trunk telephone number.
- In the Enter name for Trunk field please enter
Dial 9 SIP. - In the Registrar/Server/Gateway Hostname or IP field please enter sip.dial9.co.uk, and enable Auto discovery.
- Specify the number of simultaneous calls allowed, this would match the number of SIP channels you have through Dial 9.
- Leave the authentication type as IP based.
- Specify the routing for any calls coming through on this trunk number.
- In the Caller ID tab please enter your Dial 9 SIP number in the Configure Outbound Caller ID field. You should use E.164 format for outbound caller ID entries, i.e. 441234567890.
- Press OK at the top of the screen.
Using a username and password trunk
If your Dial 9 trunk authenticates with a username and password, set the trunk up as above, but:
- Select Generic VoIP Provider rather than Generic SIP Trunk (IP Based).
- Set the Type of Authentication to Register/Account based.
- Enter the trunk's full username from Dial 9 Connect, including the prefix, in the Authentication ID field, and the trunk's password in the Authentication Password field.
These are the field names in 3CX v20, and they can vary slightly in other versions.

A note on emergency service calls
When sending emergency service calls (i.e. 999) through your PBX, you must send the dialled number as just 999. For handling 112 calls (the European emergency services number), you must transpose 112 to 999 directly.
